A few months ago, Mark Kinney asked me if I’d be interested in running a game of Spirit of the Century for his Skype rpg group, The Gutter Skypes in April. I said “Sure, that’d be cool!”
Well, April = this Wednesday, and I’ve been reminded by Mark that they’re ready for me. So Wednesday night, April 1st, I’m running SotC over Skype.
The last time I ran a roleplaying game was when I ran Vegas After Midnight last August at GenCon. And those two sessions at GenCon are the only time I’ve run a game since the last time I ran something for the Rolemonkeys. That was in 2007. So that’s two GM sessions in the last two years. And I’m a bit nervous about that.
Looking over the Gutter Skypes Website, I’ve noticed that every game they’ve played so far is either Spirit of the Century, Spirit of the Season, or Starblazer Adventures. So they know Fate pretty well and have more actual experience with it than I do. So I’m a bit nervous about that, too.
This is going to be a test of my ability to get past all that nervousness and just have fun. And I think I can do that.
Gaming with friends should be fun. These guys like me and I just need to have fun. I’m psyching myself out again. Dumb.
It’s SotC. SotC has been good to me. Put ’em on an airship with a doomsday device on board, point ’em toward a populated area, throw in some mooks to trade blows with and some gadget-traps for Stan Rocket to mess with, and some surprises on top of all that, and have fun.
I think I can do that.
